Corporate Social Responsibility

For Howard Basford, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) means meeting the expectations of customers, employees and all other stakeholders, in managing our business responsibly and sensibly for long-term success within reasonable cost constraints. The following forms the principles of our CSR Policy:

We believe that the long-term future of our business is best served by respecting the interests of all our stakeholders: customers, staff, suppliers and the wider community.

We are committed to the recruitment of the best available staff, their training and development, and retention. Our training and human resources policies constitute part of our commitment to CSR.

We aim to continually develop and implement social and environmental policies which fit in with our everyday activities and responsibilities.

We respect that we all ultimately depend on the environment and are committed to being a responsible business in dealing with waste and energy. We look for our suppliers to also operate in a thoughtful and responsible manner. We will take all reasonable steps to manage our operations so as to minimise our environmental impact and to promote good environmental practice. We review regularly our business practices and performance to identify how we can improve our energy efficiency, minimise packaging and reduce water usage, waste disposal and air emissions.

We are not a major consumer of non-renewable resources and we work hard to ensure that there are minimum levels of pollutants resulting from our business processes. Nevertheless we can always do more to help protect our environment and often at the same time save cost. We constantly look for such ideas and support from our staff, customers and suppliers .

We always aim to operate our business in a responsible way. We look actively for realistic opportunities to both protect and improve the environment.

Business values are very important to our brand and honesty and accountability are central to our business culture. We will conduct our business relationships with integrity and courtesy, and honour our trading commitments. Our aim is to build long-term relationships with our suppliers .

As a minimum, we will always meet or exceed all relevant legislation. Where no legislation exists we will seek to develop and implement our own appropriate internal standards.

We value very highly our staff and recognise our responsibility towards their welfare, health and safety. We aim to empower our staff and we will recognise their individual contributions.

Our ultimate aim is the long term happiness of our stakeholders through collective teamwork, shared visions and professional and responsible business dealings, thereby creating a successful world in which to live and a positive future for all.
