Mercedes OM651 Diesel repair and rebuild

The Mercedes OM651 diesel is fitted to the C Class, E Class, GLC and the Sprinter van, making it one of the most widespread Mercedes engines in the UK. Early versions suffered timing chain failures, and injector seal leaks are a known issue across the range. In Sprinter vans the engine works hard for a living and high mileage wear is a common reason for a rebuild.

How this engine fails

Timing chain rattle on start up is the warning sign that should send you straight to a specialist. A snapped chain on the OM651 bends valves and can damage pistons and the cylinder head. Leaking injector seals cause carbon build up, a chuffing noise and eventually damage to the cylinder head around the injector seat. On Sprinters, worn bearings and turbo wear are typical high mileage findings.

How we put it right

We rebuild the OM651 in cars and vans with OEM chains, tensioners, valves, bearings and gaskets. Injector seats are recut in our machine shop and the head is pressure tested and skimmed. The process

How your engine gets rebuilt

01

Tell us what happened

Call or send the form and describe the symptoms. A rattle, smoke, a warning light or a complete failure. We will ask a few questions about the vehicle and give you an honest first view over the phone.

02

We collect the vehicle

Our collection service picks the vehicle up directly from your home, your workplace or your garage, anywhere in the UK. Non runners are no problem. Recovery to one of our workshops is all part of the service.

03

Strip down and video inspection

We dismantle the engine and record a video inspection of every component. You see exactly what failed and why before you spend a penny on parts. Then you approve a fixed written quote.

04

Rebuild with OEM parts

Our engineers rebuild the engine with OEM parts and photograph every stage. The photographic rebuild report becomes your record of the work and supports your warranty and the vehicle’s resale value.

05

Test certified and returned

Every rebuild is test certified before the engine leaves the workshop. We return the vehicle to your door with the report, the certification and a 12 month warranty that transfers to the next keeper.

Two garages told me to scrap the car or fit a used engine. Engine Repairs rebuilt it properly and the warranty transferred when I sold it.
